Wireless Tower Updates
Navini Towers: We have made some improvements to the service on North Lake, Sussex, Hartland, and Menonomonee Falls. Customers who have solid signals should be seeing an improvement to the speed of their service.
Oconomowoc: We have upgraded our Oconomowoc tower with our Motorola Canopy equipment. This is our premium high-speed internet service and is significantly faster and more reliable than our dial-up and Navini (Eyecom Wireless) service. If you are within range of this tower you may be eligible to upgrade your service. To determine your eligibility, please send an email to support@netwurx.net or visit www.netwurx.net/wirelessmap.
Whitewater 3: We have upgraded the Whitewater 3 tower with additional Motorola Canopy equipment. This upgrade will greatly improve speeds for our residential wireless customers and provide us the ability to offer business class service to customers within range of this tower.
Announcing our Upgraded Colocation Service
Eventually businesses outgrow the bandwidth you can cost effectively deliver with a T1, Dedicated Wireless, or DSL service. Colocating your equipment in our downtown Milwaukee Network Operations Facility provides a cost effective answer. Why not put your servers where true high speed bandwidth is “on tap” from multiple sources, protected from local loop and upstream connection problems. Our high powered network staff and local operations is available to help with complex networking, hardware and software issues. Our colocation facility is located in middle of one of the region’s “carrier hotels” [all the big carriers located in or near the same building] that will allow you superior peering opportunities at a reasonable rate.
Clarification
In our update last week we mentioned that IDC webmail will be phased out in the near future and to begin using Webmail 2 (http://webmail2.netwurx.net) or begin using Outlook Express or Thunderbird as mentioned above.
This only applies to how you retrieve your email and does not mean your email address will need to change. We apologize for any confusion this may have caused.

Customer Support Tips:
* Rebooting is the best first thing to try before contacting customer support.
o To reboot your wireless system first unplug the Motorola power supply and plug it back in. Wait 5 minutes. If you have a router, unplug the power to the router and plug it back in and restart your computer. If you do not have a router, wait 5 minutes and restart your computer.
o To reboot your DSL modem, push the power button on the back of the modem or unplug the power cord and plug it back in. Restart your computer.
* Routers can sometimes prevent you from being able to surf. If you are experiencing problems connecting to the internet bypassing your router may help. To do this remove the short black cable (the one that has the one inch black box connected to it) from the back of the router and plug directly into the network card on your computer. Restart your computer and try surfing again. If you are able to surf with this configuration, you have a connection to our tower. For assistance with reconnecting your router contact the router manufacturer.
* Deleting Large Emails: Many dial-up customers experience problems with large emails blocking the remainder of their emails from downloading. If you are one of these customers, you can view and delete these emails by accessing them via NetwurX webmail. To do this 1) Open Internet Explorer and go to http://www.netwurx.net; 2) Log in to your webmail. The login in on the left hand side of the screen and is titled NetwurX Webmail. 3) Enter your email address and password and click submit to login 4) You will see all of your email waiting to be downloaded here. Delete the offending emails. (Hint: any email that has a file size that includes an “M” should be deleted.)
* All NetwurX email accounts come with email spam filtering. To access your spam filtering go to: http://nospam.netwurx.net and enter your email address and password.
* We recommend:
o Mozilla Firefox: An alternative to Internet Explorer for web browsing. Download it here: http://www.mozilla.org
o If you plan to continue to use Internet Explorer we recommend upgrading to the latest version at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/internet-explorer/download-ie.aspx
o Mozilla Thunderbird: An alternative to Outlook or Outlook Express for email handling.
Email Service Update
Email Service Update
As many of you noticed, several scam/phishing emails were recently sent to NetwurX customers requesting passwords and other private information. Fortunately, this raised a red flag with many of our users who did not respond to the email. Unfortunately, a few people responded and as a result, the spammer began sending massive amounts of spam email through our system via our original Webmail system (a.k.a. Squirrelmail).
As a result of this attack, we needed to respond immediately and were forced to upgrade to the new Webmail 2 system. We discovered some initial bugs with the system which we were able to resolve rather quickly and feel the system is operating well at this point in time. We do apologize for this abrupt change and realize it has caused some inconvenience, however it was necessary to protect the network and you, our customers.
REMINDER: NetwurX will NEVER ask customers for passwords or personal information via email. Do not open or respond to emails requesting this information.
For customers with older operating systems or a need for greater flexibility, we suggest suggest using Outlook Express, or Thunderbird as your email program. These programs provide more options for organizing, storing, securing and backing up your email. Most PCs come with Outlook Express already installed. Thunderbird can be found at: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/thunderbird. Instructions for setting up Outlook Express and Thunderbird can be found at the end of this email.
Note to IDC Webmail Users: The IDC webmail will be phased out in the near future. Please begin using Webmail 2 (http://webmail2.netwurx.net) or begin using Outlook Express or Thunderbird as mentioned above.
Some notes about Webmail 2:
Browser Compability & Configuration:
Webmail 2 works best if your web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox or Safari) is up to date. To update your web browser go to the links provided below and follow the installation instructions.
Internet Explorer: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/ie/getitnow.mspx
Mozilla Firefox: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Safari (for Macintosh): http://www.apple.com/safari/
Deleting Email:
There are two ways to delete emails. You can click on an email and drag it to the trash can or you can click it and click the circle with slash icon at the top of the page. To select more than one email to delete, you can hold down the shift key and click to select multiple emails. Then either drag and drop to the trash or select the delete icon.
Some customers are having trouble with the email not deleting but turning gray instead. To resolve this, simply click the Personal Settings button located at the top right of your screen. Locate the option “flag the message for deletion instead of delete” and remove the check mark from the option. Click Save. Go back to your inbox and remove the grayed out email again. From now on the email will go to the trash and will not be grayed out.
